Have you ever felt like you were tired of living on the huge hamster wheel of life. Working harder to make more money to afford the bigger house, the fancier car and afford the lifestyle that society tells us that we should all be striving for with the massive amounts of consumer over consumption. Do you ever dream of a simpler life?

Emily Gerde and her husband Justin, their son Wyatt, 4 cats and 1 dog live in a 325 square foot tiny house on wheels. Emily and her family were tired of running on the hamster wheel and being over budget on their holistic and organic lifestyle. Emily, as a former licensed teacher and daycare provider, wanted to home-school her son and tiny house living provided them with a financially sound way to stay home.

Emily and her family have been living in their tiny house for 18 months and are loving the new found financial freedom, minimal environmental impact and other perks that come with tiny house living. Emily has a soon to be published book, Minimalist Living for a Maximum Life, where she shares how minimalist living, organic food and mindful practices has changed her life and the lives of the ones she loves.

Episode Highlights:
  • it's all about truly living within your means.
  • the tiny house movement has been around for approx 10 years.
  • we talked about what the transition was like going from 2000 sqft to 325 sqft.
  • Emily told us about her biggest AHA moments and about the ONE thing that she misses about her old life.
  • minimalist living has allowed for self care practices to become priority.
  • Emily gave us an idea of the depth of their own personal self care practices.
  • Emily's book, Minimalist Living for a Maximum Life will hopefully be out around Christmas, so keep an eye out for it.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drop everything to go and travel the world? Our amazing guest today is here to tell us about when he did that and the amazing journey of leadership that it created for him.

Jake Carlson is a business leader, an inspirational speaker and a 9-5 dropout. After 11 years as a tax attorney, he chose “different”. Taking his 3 kids out of school for the adventure of a lifetime, the family spent a year living in 12 countries, overcoming robbery, redeye flights and Haggis while learning to love the rich cultures of the world.

Jake is now on a mission to help elite achievers become leaders by mastering what he calls, the CIA of Influence.

  • The difference between Passion and Purpose.
  • Decisions are not permanent, if it doesn't work out, learn from it and figure out your next step.
  • Leadership can be found in every corner of the Earth.
  • Modern Leadership is constantly changing.
  • Leadership is a skill that anyone can learn, as there are many different levels of leadership.
  • Let people lead in the area where their expertise is.
  • What is the CIA of Influence?
  • What surfing taught Jake about Leadership.
  • All of us CAN be leaders, but not all of us are the SAME leader.
